Isto é Spinal Tap – Filmado como se fosse um documentário real, o filme mostra, com muito humor, a primeira excursão americana da banda inglesa de heavy metal Spinal Tap. A excursão serve de lançamento do disco “Smell the Glove”, e o diretor especialista em comerciais de TV, Marty DiBergi (Rob Reiner), é o responsável pelas filmagens do documentário. Durante a viagem, tudo acaba saindo errado: Shows são cancelados, vão a lugares errados, o som das guitarras sofrem interferência e muitas outras situações muito engraçadas. O mais realista e engraçado filme feito sobre a excursão de uma banda e seus problemas.
